New Patient Information
Welcome to Magnolia's Med Spa! We are excited to meet you on your first visit to the spa!
Patient education is very important to us. We want to make sure we have all of the information we need about you, and that you have all the information you need about us and the services we offer.
Our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) will take care of some of the most common questions our patients ask. If you can’t find it there, write it down! We can talk about it on your first visit.
- Will I swell or bruise post injection?
-
Every patient is different, so it’s hard to say. Some patients might experience both, but others experience neither. When the swelling or bruising presents varies too, but you will leave the office with post care instructions and how to manage both.
For patients new to injections, we suggest to avoid scheduling your treatment immediately prior to an important event where you’ll have your picture taken. It also helps to take anti-inflammatory before or after your treatment.
- How many units of neuromodulator (BOTOX) will I need?
-
Since this product’s popularity has grown, some women in their 20’s start getting injections as a preventative anti-aging approach. They only need 20 units for a noticeable result. Women just starting neuromodulator at age 50 to 60-years-old could need 30-40 units. We will discuss this in more detail during your initial consultation, which is always complimentary.
- How often will I need to come in to maintain?
-
We take a conservative approach with anyone new to injections. You can always add more but you can’t take away. To get a natural result, we start with a minimal amount to see results within two weeks. If more is needed, she administers more at the follow up visit.
In general, nueromodulators (like Botox) are done every three to four months. Fillers, depending on the type you use, can last from four months to two years. As a rule, the more regular you are with your maintenance, the less units or vials you will need on each visit. Ask about discounts for a prepaid maintenance schedule.
- How much filler should I plan to purchase?
- The filler is purchased by the syringe and used amount depending on the area and patients age. For example, if you’re in you 20s, you might only need half of a vial for cheek fillers. In your 30s you might need a full vial, and if you’re in your 60s, three to four vials. We will discuss the area you want treated and approximately how many vials you might need at your initial complimentary consult.
- What is Dermaplaning?
- The filler is purchased by the syringe and used amount depending on the area and patients age. For example, if you’re in you 20s, you might only need half of a vial for cheek fillers. In your 30s you might need a full vial, and if you’re in your 60s, three to four vials. Dr. Botros will discuss the area you want treated and approximately how many vials you might need at your initial complimentary consult.
- Will Dermaplaning Hurt?
- There is no pain associated with dermaplaning, most people find it relaxing. It is a non-invasive treatment and only the dead skin cells on the surface will be removed. Since products will penetrate more easily, we recommend using caution when applying aggressive skin care serums at home for a few days to avoid any irritation.

- Will I Have To Take Time Off Work For Healing?
- There is no downtime after dermplaning, and you can return to work the same day. We highly recommend a dermaplaning facial before a big event such as a wedding or a reunion due to the smoothing and rejuvenating appearance it produces.
- Won't The Hairs On The Face Grow Back Thicker?
- The filler is purchased by the syringe and used amount depending on the area and patients age. For example, if you’re in you 20s, you might only need half of a vial for cheek fillers. In your 30s you might need a full vial, and if you’re in your 60s, three to four vials. - Is Dermaplaning Recommended For Acne Skin?
- If you suffer from acne and an over production of the sebaceous gland, we do not recommend dermaplaning. For acne prone skin, we recommend Chemical Peels, which is another form of exfoliation and will clear and balance the skin to control sebaceous activity and decrease the formation of acne lesions.
- How much weight can I lose?
- This depends on your current weight and how committed you are to your program. We can administer any plan safely, whether it’s HCG or Phentermine. During your complimentary consultation, we will get a better idea of your goals and will help you get there.
- Does it hurt?
- The old laser procedures did hurt, but the modern equipment we use at Magnolia's MedSpa, called a diode laser, is really almost painless. It hurts more to get a bikini wax. The diode laser cools the skin while it kills the hair follicle underneath. We don’t need to use numbing creams, but offer ice to patients with sensitivity to pain.
- Will I have swelling?
- Usually we don’t see swelling in most of our patients, but if you are worried you can take an anti-inflammatory before your visit.
- How many treatments do I need?
- That depends on the area but we see great results in six to eight treatments.
- I have dark skin. Am I a good candidate?
- We can treat all skin types with this new laser.
- Is there anything I should know about before my treatment?
- We will discuss this in more detail during your complimentary consultation, but in general you want to avoid the sun for two to three weeks before each treatment and after. If you’ve had recent surgery in the area you want treatment or have been sunburned, it’s best to wait until the area is not inflamed to undergo laser hair removal treatments.
